Group Leader
Dr. Erika Bálint
Dr. Erika Bálint is a chemical engineer and Associate Professor at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics. She obtained her PhD in organic chemistry in 2013.
Her research areas include heterocyclic chemistry, green chemistry, microwave-assisted synthesis and flow chemistry. She has been teaching and conducting research at BME's Department of Organic Chemistry and Technology for over 15 years, and has led the Innovative Pharmaceutical and Chirotechnology Research Group for the past three years.
She has participated and continues to participate as principal investigator in several national and international research projects. Her research has been recognised with numerous awards.
She is a committed supporter of young researchers, having actively participated in the Hungarian Young Academy from 2019 to 2024. She places great emphasis on mentoring the next generation and aims to demonstrate that it is possible to excel both as a female researcher and as a mother.
In recognition of this, she received the NaTE Women in Science Excellence Award in 2019, participated as Hungary's sole representative in the US-funded IVLP "Hidden No More: Empowering Women Leaders in STEM" three-week programme in 2024, and was elected President of the Association of Hungarian Women in Science in summer 2025.
